Employment.
The title does not refer to last year's album by tune-dodging jackanapes The Kaiser Chiefs, but to the fact that I now have a job lined up for next year (well, academic year). I will be a postdoc at Sheffield University, where topology is king, for three years. It starts in October, and I finish here at the end of August, so I even get a month off for good behaviour. There will be a conference in the middle of it, but that's hardly boohoo material.
Lots of people seem to think that Sheffield is dismal and northern, and that's certainly been my own idea at various times, but it's such a good university to be at right now, and everyone I know who's ever lived there seems to love it. So I'm looking forward to it.
Add to this the fact that teaching's just stopped and winter's finally finished, and right now I'm feeling really rather optimistic about stuff. Hum.

The bendy word that I have to type in to make this work is bonkboby. It made me laugh.
Just wanted to point out for any Southern readers that lovely Shef IS Northern. Which is a good thing. For shame at using it as if it were a negative adjective. Shef's dead gorgeous and you'll love it. And be a blade in no time, woo! Congrats anyway.
If you're gonna be a blade declare it now - you'll be accused of being a glory supporter if you leave it until August.
Erm. I'm not sure I'll be a football supporter of any kind. Why not chalk me up as a provisional Blade and we'll wait until I've been to a football match ever before deciding whether or not it's official.
I'm afraid that if you decide you're on the evil side of Shef that's the end of our beautiful friendship. And if you wait till next season to watch a match before deciding tickets'll cost a bloody fortune. Because we're so damn good. Oh yes.

I wasn't trying to be critical of Sheffield, rather trying to explain what's going on to people who might have an adverse reaction on the matter. Dear oh dear.

'Olsen' is a scandinavian (most common in Denmark)
surname and 'Olsen Olsen' is a childrens card game.
I am not into Sigurrós but I have to say that to me
'hopelandic' sounds optimistic whereas 'vonlenska'
sounds extreemly depressing.
maybe this is because when you have words
composed of the word 'von=hope' and something
else it has usually to do with being hopeless.
So what do they mean, or is it mine do decide ?
I tried to find webpages were you can learn icelandic
