A Giant Snowball

This lot brought the enormous snowball to my office as retribution for my not taking part in the pure vs applied snowball fight they had on friday afternoon. It's quite an achievement I suppose, but they seem just a little too show-and-tell with their schoolchild handiwork for my liking. Anyhow, a failed attempt to take it to the office of a wine-loving senior academic failed, and on the way back to the common room, giant snowball in hands, I was approached by one of my third year students who wanted some help with a project. I was a little pleased with my response ("I have my hands full") but still I don't think it's a great outcome. Thankfully the student didn't seem totally freaked out.

That's more snow than we have in the whole city of Reykjavík !!!

Sadly enough it ended up in the common room sink. I refuse to believe that Reykjavik is snow-free in March! That said, our snow's almost gone here too.

There's about a foot and a half on the ground here so we've got plenty to share...

You can't. It's a one-of-a-kind specialist installation. When it's fully matured I'm going to take it down, pickle it in formaldehyde, and sell it to the Royal Academy. I will be a famous and rich mathematician-artist. Bring it on.

PS Hello!

I recommend 80% alchol instead as formaldehyde is considered to be highly carcinogenic and also if you pickle in alchole the DNA isn't damaged ;)

Thanks for the tip! I think it's important that the DNA of the thing be preserved as accurately as possible. Maybe that way we will one day learn exactly what the hell it is!

Wanyu,

My colleagues are hilarious, but only in a little-lost-idiot-child sort of way. You might try to take care for them, and maybe it would be fun for a while, but then the bitching, gurning, and big wet tizzies would begin. Then you would be sorry.

Think of it this way: would you let the tall one in the middle educate your children? Hmm?

Ólafía,

Sigur Ros aren't in Ed (I think), but maybe they're touring elsewhere in Britain. I saw them in november or something last year. They were very cool. Problem is that I lent someone my copy of Takk so now I can't listen to it.

I have Takk on the computer if you need it ;)

Thanks! But in fact I'm seeing them this weekend (back in York for a day or two) and I'll get Takk off them then (and cry if I don't).

'Them' is the person who's got Takk, I mean...
